After a 3-D detour at SeaWorld failed to make waves, Universal tried steering Jaws back toward familiar waters. Jaws: The Revenge opens once again in Amity, this time centering on Ellen Brody, played by Lorraine Gary, as tragedy strikes the family yet again. With the tagline “This time it’s personal,” the film leans hard into the idea that a shark isn’t just hunting, it’s targeting the Brodys. The action soon shifts to the Bahamas, where Ellen, joined by Michael Caine (Batman Begins) and Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City), faces off against a predator that apparently holds grudges. Long regarded as the low point of the franchise, this sequel has become shorthand for everything that went wrong with ’80s follow-ups.
