Many may have thought Quentin Tarantino had peaked with his Oscar winning Pulp Fiction. His genre works of Kill Bill and Grindhouse hadn’t had the critical or commercial appeal of his ’90s crime films. But the director had been working for over a decade on his script for a World War II black comedy, Inglourious Basterds. It outgrossed all his previous films and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning one for actor Cristoph Waltz.
