Deep Blue Sea Series Episode 1

One more trip into open water.

As a bonus to our Jaws retrospective, Arnie, Stuart, and Brock dive into 1999’s Deep Blue Sea. Loosely inspired by an abandoned Jaws 5 concept involving a high-tech research facility, the finished film trades Amity for the isolated Aquatica station, where genetically engineered “smart sharks” decide they’re done being lab rats. Directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2) and starring Thomas Jane (The Punisher) and LL Cool J (Halloween H20), this entry embraces its B-movie premise with big effects, bigger speeches, and some unforgettable shark mayhem. After surviving Jaws: The Revenge, has Now Playing Podcast reached the bottom of the ocean or found one last guilty pleasure worth revisiting? Donate to hear the verdict.
