Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was one of 2014’s most hotly-anticipated movies. That is quite a boost for the cerebral franchise that had lain dormant for 28 years before the disastrous 2001 remake. That all changed with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which introduced Caesar and his smart apes to a new generation of moviegoers, and excitement built in the past three years to launch this newest film to a strong opening and the next sequel already in development for a 2016 release.
